Frankfurter Buchmesse 2024, held from October 16 to 20, offered a dynamic blend of comics business and fan-focused fun. The Comics Business Centre in Hall 6.1 expanded its reach this year, doubling its table capacity from 2023. Representatives from ten countries came together to discuss licensing opportunities and trends in the international comics market. A midweek press tour, offered in both German and English, highlighted the Centre’s role and gave insight into emerging trends in comics publishing.
While the business side set the tone for the early days, the weekend was all about the fans. Readers, bookstagrammers, book bloggers, and comics fans turned out in huge numbers to attend. It was exciting to see readers from all over, Hall 3.0 and Hall 3.1 were packed with booths from well-known comics publishers, offering new releases, launch announcements, and book signings. Hall 4.1 held an Artist Alley, with creative work by indie artists and fans — perfect for comics readers and art fans.
Sunday’s German Cosplay Championship brought elaborate fandom costumes to book fair. Creative cosplayers, fandom shopping and comics fun, plus industry meetings with publishing professionals from so many countries really shows what a huge event this is, for all kinds of bookish visitors to enjoy.
