Could you believe her mother??? I was stunned!

When I first read the scene when Nina picked up her mom at the hospital, I noticed that her mom was ready much earlier than expected. I thought she was either much sicker than Nina knew or that she was skipping treatments, and I read carefully to back up my guess. When I didn’t find anything that matched my guesses, I kind of let it go. I had no idea that she was scamming Nina with fake cancer bills! Shocked!

I was stunned again when Nina found her mother’s letter in the safe. From the vague wording about “what Nina and I deserve” I was so worried that Benny and Nina were half-siblings. That would also explain Benny’s father freaking out about them, too. The attempted blackmail was so expertly plotted, of course it ties back to Vanessa’s mother’s suicide, and Lily and Nina abruptly leaving town, and even Lily hinting about Lake Tahoe back in the beginning. So good!

Oh! One more spoiler-filled comment: I’m so glad Lachlan met with such a tragic boating accident at the end of Pretty Things. I was afraid Vanessa and Nina would let him off because, thievery aside, they’re basically good people.
