This post includes major spoilers for Survive The Night! If you have plans to read the book, stop reading now!
So I already said that I found Charlie’s hallucinations kind of a disappointing plot device. And Josh/Jake’s randomly tormenting Charlie didn’t match either his bounty-hunter background or his later affection for Charlie. It seemed like it happened just to draw out the time in the car, and ugh, I thought the drive already dragged.
But I was really disappointed in the book when it was clear that Marge’s entire messed-up mission was to find the identity of the murderer, and so obviously the identity of Maddie’s killer was going to be a plot point, well, there’s only one suspect. There was only one other named guy in the book, so I realized it had to be Robbie. That really lessened the reveal. Although to be honest, by that time, I was just reading in kind of the sunk-costs fallacy, hoping that since I’d already read most of the book, and everyone else liked it, maybe the ending would be great?
Also, I don’t know how Charlie pulling out Robbie’s tooth could possibly have looked like self-defense to the police.
In conclusion, I’d skip this one and just reread Lock Every Door and Home Before Dark.
